India’s Best Dressed Men: 2016

Feb 15, 2017 5:51:10 PM

Ladies and gentlemen, while we continue to stare at our wardrobe with a listless stupor every morning, these men are on a mission to make the world a stylish place, one look at a time. Presenting India’s stylekeepers of 2016 and just what makes them tickle our trend nerves.

Shahid Kapoor

There was a time when the fashion police would relentlessly attack SK for his uninspiring dressing sense. But, his absolute volte-face and subsequent evolution from a boy-next-door to a dad-to-die-for is imitation-worthy. Mature, sculpted, and certainly on the right side of 30s, Shahid has, at last, found his sartorial taste, and in turn, millions of followers. Count us in!

His personal style is not governed by label-craving,and oscillates more towards mood dressing with a dash of quirk; the result – a minefield of looks to drool over. From red track pants and trainers, to a coolstreet look, to a fabulous McQueen ensemble - he rocks them all with confidence and an understated brashness.

Shahid’s favourite designers include Givenchy, Diesel Jeans, G-Star, Alexander McQueen – unconventional yet classy, just like him.

ViratKohli

ViratKohli first appeared on the list of GQ India’s Best Dressed Men in the year 2012, and there’s been no looking back for him. He’s been consistently knocking out fashion hits with his penchant for dressing.

Virat has stated Justin Timberlake’s offbeat dressing as his style inspiration. One look at his attire and you get to know the man keeps comfort above all when it comes to clothes – be it a fitted suit or a simple T-shirt and sneakers. Another thing our style icon gladly understands is that it’s not just about clothes, but the entire look. So you’ll often find him making headlines for his swag haircuts and tattoos apart from his outfits.

Saif Ali Khan

The Nawab of all things fashion comes from a family where style is synonymous with royalty. Yet, Saif has successfully impressed his individuality on everything big and small in his life - from a career in movies to his passion for music to a flawless taste in clothes. He goes from a leather biker jacket to a Tom Ford tux with sheer effortlessness. Take a look at his on-screen characters and you’ll agree with us - be it the chocolate-boy in Dil Chahta hai or the suave spy in Agent Vinod. But what really sets him aside is his attention for details in dressing. He is uncannily aware of things you expect only a professional to know - how to do your hair with a particular outfit; whether to go for a contrast or coordinate colours; what lengthkurta will complement one’s height, and so on.

Saif’sfavourite designers include Gucci, Tom Ford and YSL.

ANAND MAHINDRA

Anand Mahindra is undisputedly one of India’s most stylish business tycoons. Hispassion for the finest things in life reflects in his classic power dressing – brilliantly tailored suits, tasteful ties, and an attitude that befits a global entrepreneur.

A flourishing billionaire, Anand Mahindra swears by made-to-measure suits, especially the Brioni power suit. He is also a fan of Sloan Street, one of the world’s most exclusive and luxurious shopping destinations in London.

AKSHAY KUMAR

Akki wasn’t ever really known for his style. But then he wasn’t ever really known for comedy, as well;the keyword being ‘was’. What’s remarkable about this man is that he broke the very stereotypes that were shackling him, and evolved as a stylish actor. If we’re to really put a finger on it, Tashan was a major turning point. The movie saw Akki expanding his comfort zone and experimenting with his looks.

Today Akshay channels a strong metrosexual image – a ripped body that comes with chiseled looks (he’s 46 for Christ’s sake). From tattered denims and cropped tees to track pants and hoodies, he wears them all. He was recently spotted sporting a cool, hip-hop kinda trend of wearing pants with one leg rolled up to the knee. Interestingly, this trend originated in American prisons and later became popular with rappers and skaters.

So who really is Akki’s style mentor? Well, in his own words the man describes his wife Twinkle Khanna, a celebrated interior designer, as his big fashion inspiration. More power to this couple!
